ABOUT COOCH BEHAR COLLEGE: Cooch Behar College library plays a pivotal role in the teaching-learning process of the College. Our library disseminates knowledge through our collection, services, technologies and staffs. Our library provides resources, both print-based and electronic to enhance your information experience. We are committed to collecting materials and making these materials discoverable, usable and accessible to faculties, staffs and students.

The Library has a rich collection of around 31,600 books, valuable reference books, journals, educational CDs/DVDs and open access e-books, e-journals, and other resources for the use of its patrons.The library has well equipped Career Counselling Corner with books of Remedial and Entry Level Coaching Programmes.The college authority has opened a reading room and computer hub in the library from the academic session (2006-07). It is the fulcrum of all academic activities of all UG courses.

The library remains open from 10.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. during week days and from 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. on saturdays. There is also a Book Bank facility for the students.The library has completed the computerisaton process and has launched On-Line Catalogue (OPAC) to access the database of the library.

HISTORY & LOCATION: Established on the 16th of November, 1970 , CoochBehar College is one of the most eminent educational institutions of CoochBehar , a remote district of West Bengal . The college has been sincerely catering for the aspirations of the students for higher education and has been an excellent centre for imparting higher education for the students of the district and Its neighbouring areas sharing both intranational and international borders. The institution has been working diligently and tirelessly to diffuse the light of knowledge upon the varied and diverse social milieu of this underprivileged part of the country mostly inhabited by the people belonging to scheduled tribe and minority communities. The college has already been assessed by the NAAC thrice and has been graded with a B++ rating in its third cycle. The college offers all the three streams of UG courses -- Arts, Science and Commerce along with Management courses like BBA and BBM and also various other Career Oriented Programmes . Introduction of PG courses in English and Geography has added a new dimension to this already coveted abode of learning . The college also offers diploma in Geoinformatics and is a centre for non formal Sanskrit education too .The college has also been working for the greater interest of the society and the nation and has been conducting many social outreach programmes through the two enthusiastic and dedicated NSS units of the college. The college is well equipped with advanced teaching-learning components and fully automated library, computer laboratory, advanced laboratories for different departments as well as a modern language laboratory and so on have contributed to produce a conducive atmosphere for learning in this prestigious institution. The college emphasises on the manifestation of the qualities already hidden in the young and aspiring minds and inspires them to evolve as better human beings striving towards perfection. The mission of the college is to offer the students a learning experience and ambience that promote their career development as well as imbibe high values of life in them. Over a period of more than 50 years , CoochBehar College has received many laurels of excellence from highly reputed academic and professional bodies . The college has been a cultural meeting point for quality academic exchanges and interactions among the inquisitive minds and has become synonymous with achievement, quality and excellence.

Mission In order to accomplish the vision the institution has promulgated the Mission Statements as –

INFRASTRUCTURE:
The Institute has 24hrs free WIFI campus of total area 3.74 acres .The buildings comprises of twenty- Eight spacious (28) class rooms , fourteen modern (14) Laboratories, one Central Library Building, a well decorated Seminar Hall with seating capacity 0f 100, and six (06) administrative rooms including one for Netaji Subhas Open University Study Centre(NSOU study centre), one for NSS(NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME) unit, one for BBA (BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION)section ,one for BBM(BACHELOR OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT) Section, one room allocated for IQAC(Internal Quality Assurance Cell) section, and one for COP(CAREER ORIENTED PROGRAMMING) courses. A Lush Green Playground in the middle of the campus has enhanced the beauty of the institution. Apart from that College has a full-fledged multi-gymnasium with the fund from the local MLA and MPs. The Central Library OPAC (ONLINE PUBLIC ACCESS CATALOGUE) system which gives facility to the students and the teachers to search for the books whether those are available in the library or not and also it provides separate reading rooms for the faculties and the students. The college has Principal’s Room adjoining the office room, one spacious Room for the Faculties, one room for the Accounting Section, a server room, a room for the Students’ Union office ,a Girls’ Common Room and a Boys’ Common Room. It has introduced College App named “COOCH BEHAR COLLEGE APP” for the benefit of the students as well as the employers also. The college has total teaching strength 81 among which 5 are Associate Professors, 27 are Assistant Professors, 40 are SACT(State-Aided College Teachers) and 7 are Contractual Guest Faculties . The Institutional office works are carried out very efficiently by 22 Non-Teaching Staffs. The college has classrooms, separate laboratories for the Department of Geography, Department Physics, Department Chemistry, Department Mathematics, Department Computer Science, BBA & BBM. Despite many constraints, the college is trying hard to provide modern technological aids for knowledge and enhancement with the help of UGC fund. This website has been launched in 2006 for providing information about the college. The website has been revised and replaced in 2020. The combined efforts will help to build an image of the institution.

The institute plans to extend the existing building within the near future for housing and auditorium. The college has classrooms, separate laboratory for Geography, Physics, Chemistry & Computer Science each. The college has separate library building along with reading room facility and some more classrooms and also a full-fledged multi-gymnasium with the fund from the local MLA and MPs. The college authorities have already applied to them for financial assistances.

Despite many constraints, the college is trying hard to provide modern technological aids for knowledge and enhancement with the help of UGC fund. The institute has purchased a photocopy machine and an overhead projector, a TV set a public address system and video cassette recorder etc for the benefit of the students. The process of computerization of the library has already been started. The college also introduced new software for complete automation in official and academic tasks. The members of two office staffs are encouraged to achieve computer skill while giving them flexible work scheduled and financial support. The institute has internet facility with six (06) terminals for the staff and students. A website has been launched in 2006 for providing information about the college. The website has been revised and replaced in 2009. The combined efforts will help to build an image of the institution.

FUTURE PLANS:
Without compromising on its reputation as one of the foremost district colleges for imparting under graduate as well as post graduate education in commerce, humanities, science and management the college is fast gearing itself to meet the changing demands of education. We are planning to introduce Honours Courses in Education, General Course in Zoology & Botany in addition to opening of MBA Programme and other P.G Courses.
